How to Screen Growth Marketer Resumes
Growth marketer resumes promise hockey-stick curves and "growth hacks," and rarely say which experiments worked or whether the candidate ran the funnel or watched it. The screen that matters finds experiment velocity, the metrics they actually moved across the funnel, and the difference between someone who drove growth and someone who was present during it. The number needs an owner.

Core qualifications
- Funnel metrics they moved (activation, retention, CAC, LTV, conversion) with a baseline
- Experiment velocity and rigor — tests run, win rate, and what they learned
- Clarity on their actual lever (acquisition, activation, retention) versus team-wide results
- Cross-channel or full-funnel scope appropriate to the role
- Analytical and tooling literacy to measure their own impact (experimentation, attribution)
Red flags
What to watch for in growth marketer resumes
- "Drove explosive growth" with no metric, baseline, or attribution behind it
- Credit for company-level growth that coincided with a launch, a raise, or a market tailwind
- "Growth hacks" listed as tactics with no result from any of them
- Experiment talk with no test count, win rate, or learning to show for it
- No analytics or attribution detail for a role defined by measuring impact
Worth verifying
Claims that are easy to write, hard to back up
- "Drove 3x growth" — in which metric, from what baseline, attributable how?
- "Ran growth experiments" — how many, what win rate, and which one mattered?
- "Reduced CAC" — by how much, against what, and did LTV hold?
- "Owned the funnel" — which stage did they actually move, and by how much?
The fast way
Screen growth marketers faster
For growth reqs, weight experiment velocity and owned funnel metrics over "growth hack" tactics. The strongest growth resumes name the stage they moved, the baseline they moved it from, and the tests behind it; the weak ones claim company-level curves that lined up with a launch or a raise. Pin down which lever was theirs, and verify they can measure their own impact.
